Heart Gallery - Kiersten
By KVAL-TV
(Shelly Kurtz speaking)
A soon to be 6th grader says, she knows exactly what she wants out of life....a good education, a good job...but first, a good home. Let me introduce you to Kiersten, this mornings Heart Gallery child.
This is a big day for 11 year old Kiersten. She's visiting Eugene for a day of pampering. For starters, she's stretching her 'creative side'. We met up at the potter's quarter, at the Oakway center. She'd never selected and painted her own pottery before....but it didn't take long for her to catch on.
("I want to paint the edges pink, the inside green and the outside blue.")
Kiersten is quite artistic....she didn't hesitate to choose her colors and design. When she's asked about her future....she knows what she wants when she grows up.
("I want to go to California State University")
("I want to be a teacher. Do you want to teach big kids or little kids?"
"both, but at different times.")
Kiersten loves her foster family. She's been with them for two years, but its time for her to find a permanent home. Her caseworker says Kiersten's forever family needs to play to her strengths, which are many.
("She loves swimming, the outdoors, she'd fit in well, she loves to read, reading is one of her hobbies.")
And, if there are any drawbacks....
("The only thing she gets in trouble with is talking too much in class.")
Kiersten remains in contact with her father and older sister in California. The family that adopts her will need to consider that relationship. Kiersten is ready to be settled....and when she goes home to her forever family, she will have her own ice cream bowl....and would be thrilled to paint one for everyone in her home.
