Heart Gallery - Romon and Nyla
By KVAL
A big brother and sister hope that by the end of this school year, they will be living with....and adopted by their forever family. They are this morning's Heart Gallery children, here are Ramon and Nyla.
9 year old Ramon and 6 year old Nyla recently visited Eugene. After shopping for new clothes, they stopped at the build-a-bear, at Valley River Center.
("Oh, look at that...high heels!"
"is that cute?")
Nyla chose a very cuddly, white bear.
("how do you want your bear, soft hard or medium?" "medium")
("see if this feels ok.")
Nyla just started first grade. She told me, she's really looking forward to learning how to read and write.
Big brother Ramon is in the fourth grade. He's a good big brother...and looks after his sister. He chose a wolf to take home. Ramon is also big duck fan...he chose a football uniform for his new toy.
("he's ready."
"he looks good."
"i'm going to teach him some moves.")
Ramon plays football and also has a great sense of humor.
("how do i look?")
Caseworker Pam Colby says, the children are bright, bonded and fun to be around.
("they're just wonderful kids. They are smart. Ramon likes anything athletic and he accels at everything from soccer to football, everything.")
("Nyla's a girly-girl. She likes dressing up and she likes fixing her hair and she likes dancing.")
The kids are Native American and although the children don't have to be adopted by a native family, Colby says, the family that adopts them needs to be respectful of their heritage. She says, Ramon, especially, wants to learn more about his background. Colby says, because these children are so bright and curious, the family that adopts them should be willing to expose these two to as much of the world as possible....and if they are sports fans, for Ramon, he'd especially like that a lot.
