Veteran's Day Parade draws large crowd

Weather was not a deterrent for parade watchers Monday, as patriotic people turned out in large numbers despite the rain for the Roseburg Veteran's Day Parade.

Despite the weather, citizens still came out to honor Veterans who have served our country. People from all generations showed their support in the parade, with fun costumes, up-beat music and fancy floats.

Army Veteran Bill Hamman, says its great to see the younger generations have so much pride in their country and for the Veterans.

"A young man came up to me, while I was in this uniform and said sir, I want to thank you for what you did for us. Then he said he wanted to apologize for what his father had done. I said what do you mean? He said, well my dad demonstrated against you, and he said I want to thank you for what you did and apologize, because now I understand what you guys did and what you sacrificed."

Despite different opinions on war and politics, people united Monday for one cause.

"You may not agree with what they're doing, but you must honor them, because what they're doing is honorable."

Hamman says Roseburg's friendly residents meant a lot to him after returning from Vietnam, and the parade is symbolic to him year after year.

"Because of the way Roseburg treated me as a Vietnam Vet, it helped me heal after 30 years."

Women Veterans were the Grand Marshals, and Veteran's organizations passed out poppy flowers in remembrance of fighting soldiers.
