Family and friends gathered to celebrate New Year's Day with a new addition to the family. Jasmine Morales who was born at 12:06 am at Mercy Medical Center.

She was the first baby of the new year and weighed in at 7 lbs 12 ounces and was 21 inches long. The mother, Tabitha Morales says it was a hard labor and it lasted about 24 hours.

However, Tabitha says she forgot all the pain once she laid eyes on baby Jasmine. "You forget everything. You forget all the pain and you forget how long it took. Its just overwhelming."

Baby Jasmine's dad Hector Morales, was overjoyed with the arrival of his daughter. He got a little emotional when he saw her for the first time.
" The first time I caught a glimpse was the first time she was being born. Right there was just really emotional for me."

Jasmine was nine days early to make her the first born of the new year. Her family is excited to go home and enjoy their new lives together.
