The Roseburg city councilors placed into law a new street cut policy on Monday night.

The new ordinance prohibits cutting newly paved city streets for two years and main arterials for five years.

Mayor Larry Rich and City Recorder Sheila Cox;

"This is up for second reading so let's have second reading." " Second reading Ordinance 3282, an ordinance adding section 4.02 entitled ' New Pavement-Limitation on Street Cuts'". " and motion carries, so therefore, Ordinance number 3282 is adopted."

Another rule will be added later, according to city staff, that will set fees and penalties to back up the new law if or when it needs enforcing.

The new rule means newly paved streets in the city of Roseburg won't be cut for certain time periods, two years for side streets and five years for main roads, except for emergencies.

The councilors also accepted an Airport Commission recommendation to study four proposals that would lengthen the city airport's runway for future expansion.
