Councilors look at ways of fixing airport hangers
By KPIC Web StaffROSEBURG - The Roseburg City Councilors voted to get the airport hangars fixed at the municipal airport, but it wasn't unanimous. A contingency plan has been approved if the city can't get the original contractor to fix the problems out at the airport hangars. The normal process would require a new request for proposal and a prolonged bidding war. The time constraints and losing monthly rents that equals about $5,500 has city staff looking for ways to streamline the process. "So now we're at a point where those mistakes need to be fixed. The number one choice is for staff to work with the contractor and the contractor fix it, and it's still in the process that will occur. If that doesn't happen, then you really have two choices. One is that you have to go find somebody that's going to fix it, going off the same original plans, and the engineering work that was designed for that particular hangar, and you find somebody that's going to fix it. The other route is to go out to bid, now all of a sudden over here, somebody's got to check the engineering design work to make sure it's all correct, so you're paying for that," said Roseburg Mayor Larry Rich. The council eventually voted for the ability to hire someone to fix the deficiencies if the original contractor can't or won't fix the airport hangars, which ended up being too small for most aircraft designs. |
