ROSEBURG, Ore. - A car hit a loaded school bus May 6, and some students were treated for bruises and abrasions. No serious injuries were reported.

According to police, a Mercedes sedan driven by 36-year-old Dwayne Shaver Jr. turned left from Rowe Street onto Winchester Street next to the Taco Del Mar Restaurant. Police said the car went into the turn lane and for an unknown reason kept turning left and hit the rear wheels of the bus.

The car sustained damage on its left side, and the bus appeared to have some axle damage but was driveable.

The bus, driven by 51-year-old Ellen Scampini of Roseburg, had some young students on it at the time of the crash. A few were jolted around in the collision.

A couple of the students were treated for bruises and abrasions, but no serious injuries were reported.

Shaver was cited for misuse of special left turn lane.

Police said you legally must come to a complete stop when you enter the center lane until you can safely move into the lane of traffic.
