Riddle woman dies in Wednesday morning crash

RIDDLE- A Riddle woman is dead after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on Riddle By-pass Road.

Douglas County Sheriff's deputies say 23-year-old Sara McWhirter died at the scene when her 1996 dodge stratus apparently veered into the opposite lane and hit a 1996 Chevy pickup pulling a trailer.

The driver of the pickup, 26-year-old Brian Porter of Creswell told officers the car came into his lane and hit the rear axle of his pickup and then the trailer.

The pickup was heavily damaged by the impact, and the trailer was torn free and was also badly damaged.

McWhirter died at the scene. Porter was not seriously injured.

Police say it appears McWhirter was not wearing a seat belt.
