Local radio announcer selected to be voice of Oregon baseball
By Dan Bain, KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- Long-time Roseburg High School sports announcer Brian Prawitz is counting down the days to the baseball season. He has been selected as one of the radio announcers for Oregon Duck Baseball. The university brought back the sport after it was dropped in 1981, and is building a new park next to Autzen Stadium, that should be ready for this spring's season. Prawitz says he's excited to be in on the ground floor of the new program.
"When you start something from scratch, from the very beginning, to be that first person there along with Jerry Allen is going to be special." Prawitz will share the broadcast duties with Jerry Allen, the football and basketball announcer.
"The best part of this is working with Jerry Allen, who's been at it for 20 years. The best part of it is being a part of the most well-funded, forward thinking, cutting edge program in sports in my opinion, and being there at the very beginning."
There will be no shortage of uniforms, with a closet full of combinations available when the Ducks hit the field, and Prawitz is ready to go. The new field next to Autzen Stadium is expected to be ready to go when the Ducks begin their home schedule. The Ducks will have at least one Douglas County athlete on the team when they begin in February, as Caleb Tommasini from Douglas High School will likely be on the squad. |
