DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- After Bayliner, Roseburg Forest Products and most recently, Swanson Group laid off employees, the Douglas County unemployment rate is now close to 12%.

Workforce analysts in the Roseburg office of the state Employment Department say the unemployment rate is 11.5% right now, and could crest above 12% for this past December.

Analysts say there's some good news to follow with seasonal trends. Unemployment rates usually fall from January through March.

For those looking for a job or wanting information, you do have options.

Workforce Analyst Rob Abbott says, "Come in to the Oregon Employment Department, we have some good quality listings to go through and to apply for. UT&E, one of our partners, has another option that people can go and take a look at what they have going, and Umpqua Community College has the ability to skill up, maybe you're looking for some training, brush up on your skills, that will make you even more valuable in the job market."

Abbott says there may be some good news in the economic forecast. They expect the job market to improve by mid-year, but he stresses that is only a prediction, and only time will tell.

The Roseburg office is located in downtown Roseburg on Pine Street.
