Teen driver leads state trooper on 40 mile chase at over 125 mph
Driver won't stop for state trooper; state trooper radios ahead to other troopers, who deploy spikes on the road; spikes puncture tire and disable car; and driver winds up charged with crimes. By KVAL Web StaffSUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A teenage boy from Salem, Ore., led state troopers on a chase for over 40 miles at speeds in excess of 125 mph Friday morning. Oregon State Troopers managed to deflate one of the car's tires north of Sutherlin, Ore., and force the boy to stop. The incident started around 10:09 a.m. when OSP Trooper Casey Codding stopped a green 1996 Audi four-door sedan going southbound on Interstate 5 at 103 mph south of Creswell, Ore. Trooper Codding overtook the Audi and attempted a traffic stop near milepost 177, at which time the Audi sped up to speeds over 125 mph. OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office headed north and set up spike sticks north of Sutherlin near milepost 138. The Audi drove over the sticks, deflating the left front tire. After driving about 1 1/2 miles, the driver lost control and spun out, coming to a stop off the right shoulder.
The 17-year old juvenile male driver was arrested without further incident for Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle and Reckless Driving. His parents were notified and he was transported by OSP back to the Lane County Juvenile Detention Center in Eugene, Ore., about an hour south of Salem. Most Popular |
