CANYONVILLE, Ore. -- Fourteen high school seniors were honored with scholarships Saturday night at the annual Cow Creek Umpqua Community College Scholarship Dinner.

One senior from each public high school in the county was given a $1,500 scholarship to Umpqua Community College from the Cow Creek Foundation.

Tribal Chair Sue Shaffer says the students are impressive. "We honor academics of course, and are thrilled with the 4.0 student, but we also do consider lesser grade points because we feel if a student tries hard, is a good citizen, contributes to the community and all of those good things, that counts as well as academics."

The winners were:

  • Cierra Gibson - Camas Valley
  • Teresa Wilkerson - Days Creek
  • Stacia Blankenship - Douglas
  • Thaddeus Miller - Elkton.
  • Ashley King - Glendale
  • Rio Morris - North Douglas
  • Clinton Brown - Oakland
  • Jennifer Oots - Phoenix School
  • Jordon Osborne - Riddle
  • Katherine Shriver - Reedsport
  • Katilyn Hane - Roseburg
  • Jessica Page - South Umpqua
  • Ryan Fullerton - Sutherlin
  • Amanda Thorp - Yoncalla.
