County man honored for many years of service
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- A long time Douglas County rancher and animal control officer was honored Wednesday for more than 50 years of service to the county. Bob Hall runs a 2,000 acre ranch in the Dixonville area, and he also served as a one-man animal control department for 24 years. Hall says he was in charge of protecting livestock from dogs when he was the only animal control officer in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and sometimes would even sleep out in the fields waiting for the offenders to come along. He was honored by Sheriff John Hanlin for his service, not only as the animal control officer, but also serving on the Dog Control Board for the county. After recieving the award, Hall said, "It's been a long time, 54 years I think, and I've enjoyed it. I appreciate the board doing this for me, thank you very much." Sheriff Hanlin said, "During the 24 years he worked in this position, Bob consisted of the entire Dog Control Office, working as the enforcement officer, secretary and administrator. Prior to his retirement, Bob was responsible for getting more than 12,000 dogs licensed in Douglas County." Hall resigned from the Dog Control Board at the end of June after serving for 30 years. |
