COTTAGE GROVE, Ore--  Shane Adrian Mast, a former Cottage Grove high school teacher says he did not have intercourse with female students in 2008.

Mast was arrested yesterday by Cottage Grove police on one count of sex abuse in the third degree.  After he was booked, he was then arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on numerous sex abuse charges in the third degree.

Tonight, he spoke to KVAL reporter Elissa Harrington on the phone and emailed this statement to KVAL News:

"I ask for people to hold their opinions until all facts are presented in court. Rumors can snowball into sensational stories from unsensational truths!

I believe these accusations are not coming from any alleged victims, but rather from overzealous police officers who seem to be on a personal vendetta rather than looking for justice and social welfare.

In light of these accusations my family and I are trying to make ends meet and press on as best as we can. I do wish to say that I love my wife and my kids and would like to have the least impact on them as possible throughout this process."
