Grants provide extra funding for schools
By Katie Boer KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- Teachers from all across Douglas County have been selected to receive special Chalkboard Grants thanks to Cascade Community Credit Union. The credit union has a new grant program that serves as a much needed financial resource to local schools in the county. This year the $10,000 grant program gave two $100 mini-grants to 49 teachers from 32 schools in 12 different districts. The grants help pay the additional expenses associated with special classroom projects. Projects which some educators say may not have happened in this economy. They are going to be used in the classrooms for teachers to use to be able to work with the kids as far as buying extra supplies and things that will really enhance the learning experience that's already taking place. Brian Young's World and US History class at Roseburg High is receiving money after he signed up for the grant online. "The money will be going to the living history day which is every May in our gym. It will be used for decorations for our gym, for lunches for our guests, it will be used in a lot of different ways." A complete description of the grants and the schools they were awarded to can be found on Cascade Community's Web site. |
