Lucas Corder, KPIC Student Athlete of the Week
By Katie Boer KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- If Finlay Field is Roseburg football's cathedral, then the end zone is senior Lucas Corder's holy grail. Corder remembers coach Thurmond Bell telling the team as freshmen that before graduation they would go all the way. "He looked at us all and said, 'You guys will be in the state championship'." The running back/linebacker was also last year's 1st team All-League defensive end, and collegiate coaches have been noticing. "Right now I'm talking to Portland State, Oregon State and University of Oregon. Those are all ones that I could go play for. I just want to play D-1 football." Lucas approached Coach Bell in sixth grade, saying he wanted to play on the team just like his dad. "Every single one of my family members is someone that puts forth a lot. Everything they got all the time. That's always really kinda inspired me and since I was little, I always have just been pushed to be the best at whatever I do." 35 years ago, Al Corder was Roseburg's All-State defensive back. Now Lucas wants to be just like dad. "I think that we're ready to go. I think that the pressure will be a good thing for us. I think the credit that people are giving us right now actually pushes us harder." |
