By Glen Beeby KPIC NewsCANYONVILLE, Ore. -- The Harm Reduction Center of Southern Oregon hosted a fundraiser at the Seven Feathers convention center, featuring the group Glitz in the Sticks. The show was made up of four female impersonators who do comedy and song routines of famous singers. Local community members really seemed to enjoy the show, and the comedy acts done by the M.C. had the crowd rolling through the evening. Lowell Klasserg, Develpoment Director of hte Harm Reduction Center, said, "We were very happy with the crowd reaction, we were very happy with the amount of folks who came out tonight. Definitely, we are going to be doing this for years to come." Another part of the evening was spent highlighting all of the services the Harm Reduction Center has and the people they help. Several people spoke of the need to be educated about diseases including some who are infected with H.I.V. and others who have lost loved ones from the disease. The fundraiser will help offer free testing and assistance to people in southern Oregon. Douglas County has the highest rate of new H.I.V. infections among young people than in any other place in Oregon. |
