Suspects in Harvard Ave. Drug robbery very specific
By Katie Boer KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore -- Roseburg police responded to Harvard Avenue Drugs around 3:30 p.m. after a clerk called 911 before the suspects had even left the building. According to the two pharmacy technicians behind the counter, two masked men entered the pharmacy through an unlocked side door during regular business hours with customers still inside the store. One suspect entered the backroom and demanded narcotics from the pharmacy technician, armed with what appeared to be a semi automatic handgun. "This type of robbery is very rare, said Sergeant Aaron Dunbar of the Roseburg Police Dept. “I can’t think of anything similar in the last 20 years. We've had pharmacies burglarized and had the medication taken, but as far as armed robbery looking for a specific item, not taking anything else ... this is really unique." Kelsie Madison was one of the pharmacy technicians who retrieved the narcotics for the suspect. She said the whole event happened so quickly she really wasn't frightened until after they left. "Afterwords, it's like that was really scary … just all the adrenaline coming and you know, you later crash and everything, it was (kind of like) in that moment you don't think you’re scared, but later you’re like ‘that was really scary’." The drug store has close to 25 security cameras positioned in different angles around the store. Roseburg police are currently investigating the footage but say a robbery like this one is uncommon. "Most robberies suspects go in for cash, that kind of thing,” said Sgt. Dunbar. “In this case, the suspects were looking for something very specific. Right down to the milligram dose of the particular pill that they were looking for." Roseburg police were assisted by Douglas County Sheriff's and Oregon State Police, who searched the neighboring areas after the two men fled on foot. Police have asked us not to release the specific narcotic until further investigation.
