ROSEBURG, Ore. -- An alleged affair between a high school senior and one of her teachers started with kissing at a graduation party and escalated into sexual intercourse at least 15 times before the girl turned 18, according to court records in Douglas County.

Shane Mast, 31, of Drain, Ore., faces multiple counts of sex abuse, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and furnishing alcohol to a minor in both Lane and Douglas counties.

His attorney said Mast plans to plead not quilty to the charges.

Mast is a former North Douglas High School basketball coach and Cottage Grove High School teacher.

KPIC News in Roseburg, Ore., obtained a Douglas County Sheriff Office detective's account of an interview with a teenage girl who reported having a sexual relationship with Mast.

The account describes in detail a sexual relationship Mast's former female student said she had with her teacher. The student told the sheriff's office that Mast was her teacher and that their relationship began at a graduation party in Cottage Grove in June 2008 where the two kissed.

She said she went to Mast's home in Drain, Ore., three or four times before the two first had sex. The student said they had sex more than 15 times between the months of June and August, according to the affidavit. The student also told the detective she thought Mast and his wife were separated at the time.

According to the account in the court affidavit, Mast told her he wanted to wait to have intercourse until she was 18, but they didn't. The student said the two always used a condom.

The student said the sexual relationship ended when Mast left on a mission trip to Africa.
