Local dance group wins way to nationals
By KPIC-TV StaffROSEBURG, Ore. - A local dance teams has won its way into the U.S. Finals in Las Vegas this spring. The Infinity All-Stars from Douglas County, won the regional competition in Tacoma, Washington earlier this winter, and earned the right to go to the national competition in April. The group, which is coached by Gina Snyder, has girls from 13 to 20 years old, and from several different schools in the county. They have been putting in long hours to get ready for the big competition. "We went to the spirit cheer competition in Tacoma, Washington and we got first place and that qualified us to go to the US Finals in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is the Super Bowl of cheerleading competition, is the best way to explain it," said Alexa Anderson, a student at Umpqua Community College. "We practice every Sunday, we practice sometimes as long as from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., just as long as we need to," said Gaby Cardenas, a student at Roseburg High School. "We work really hard for hours throughout the day." The dancers, who range from age up to 20-years-old, are fine-tuning their routine that they will perform, and they head for Las Vegas on April 15, for the national competition. The team has been raising money to pay for the trip, by selling food in a booth at the Outdoor Show and the Home Show at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, as well as other fundraisers, and they are well on their way. The group also qualified to compete in another national dance competition in southern California later in the spring. |
