ROSEBURG, Ore. -- St. Patrick's Day is not only a popular night out to celebrate with family and friends, but also a day that comes with a very dangerous reality due to a large number of intoxicated drivers.

For that reason local law enforcement will be looking to remove intoxicated drivers before their luck, and yours, runs out.

Out of 134 crash fatalities nationally last year on St. Patrick's Day, 50 people were killed in a crash involving at least one driver, or motorcyclist, with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher, according to statistics by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Thanks to media awareness, and extra patrol, ODOT's Fatality Analysis Reporting System states that there was not a single traffic fatality reported in Oregon on St. Patrick's Day in 2008 or 2009.

O.S.P. wants to remind you to pay close attention to other drivers and they encourage you to not hesitate when it comes to reporting drunk drivers.
