California man dies, two others injured in crash near Gold Hill
By KPIC-TV StaffGOLD HILL, Ore. - Oregon State Police say a California man is dead and two other people seriously injured, after a crash on Interstate 5 near Gold Hill early Friday morning. State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into crash that blocked the southbound lanes of I-5 just south of Gold Hill. Police said the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet van, Cristian Rodriguez, 32, of Santa Rosa, California died when the van crashed into the back of a semi pulling two loaded wood chip trailers, just before 5:00 a.m. Friday morning. OSP Senior Trooper William Matson said the truck, driven by Kenneth Wayne Moss, 49, of Grants Pass, was southbound going uphill about 20 MPH in the right lane, when it was struck by the van. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was using safety restraints and the van's airbags deployed. Right-front passenger and the wife of the driver, Deborah Solis, 36, was critically injured. Rear seat passenger Immer Castillo-Garcia, 27, of Daly City, California was seriously injured. After being extricated from the van, both were transported by Mercy Flights ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center. Moss, who was driving for Erv Bettendorf out of White City, was not injured. OSP troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Jackson County Sheriff's Office and ODOT assisted at the scene. Traffic was allowed to travel through the area using the inside shoulder. |
