Raid on RV turns up drugs, stolen gun
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A couple is in jail after police in Medford contacted police here about two subjects they wanted that were believed to be staying in Douglas County.
Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team got information from the Medford Police Department about David and Kristina Smith, who were wanted and possible staying in an RV park in the Canyonville area.
Police say that David, 32, and Kristina, 33, were, "prolific identity thieves."
At around 7:30 p.m., DINT found their vehicle at the River's West RV Park north of Myrtle Creek.
They began surveillance and called in several Sheriff's patrol deputies. They surrounded the RV at around 9 p.m. and started communicating with them via a loudspeaker.
After about 20 minutes, David came out and was taken into custody without incident.
Kristina stayed inside and told police there was a gun inside.
She finally came out and surrendered after another 40 minutes.
Roseburg Police Department's K-9 team searched the RV looking for more people, but found nobody else.
DINT searched the RV and found a stolen gun, meth and marijuana. In addition, police say they found several checks with different names and mail they believed to be recently stolen from different places around Douglas County.
The two both had warrants in both Jackson and Josephine County.
They were taken to the Douglas County Jail, where they were lodged on multiple charges.
The investigation is continuing.
