Court Documents: Man sent lewd pics, video to minor
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Myrtle Creek man arrested after a year-long investigation into his alleged online sexual conduct with a minor told police he expected to be jailed for "luring that poor 14 year old," according to court documents.
Timothy Paul Whitley, 45, was arrested Thursday and charged with second degree online sexual corruption of a child.
According to an affidavit, a 14-year-old girl from Arkansas told her school counselor that she began an online relationship with Whitley in early 2011, which led to a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Detectives interviewed the girl, and say she told them that the two started an online relationship on Facebook. Detectives in Arkansas said she reported that Whitley told the girl he was a 45-year-old sex offender who had served two years in prison for sexually molesting a 10-year-old girl.
Police say the girl disclosed that she and Whitley discussed performing sexual acts with one another, and says Whitley also sent her graphic pictures and video of himself.
When Douglas County Detectives interviewed him, he said he initially thought the girl was 18, but later learned her true age.
Police say Whitley told them he discussed meeting up with the girl, and that she seemed to not be bothered by his age or background, and disclosed a sexual relationship she had with her step-brother.
The affidavit states that Whitley told the girl he wanted to meet up with her ion Arkansas, using the pretense of visiting family out of state as an explanation to his wife.
Whitley allegedly allowed police access to his computer and several of his online accounts, where they say they found evidence that checked out with the girl's story.
Whitley is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail on $10,000 bail.
