Pickup crashes into college fountain
WINCHESTER, Ore. -- A crash Monday morning at Umpqua Community College left a full-size pickup in the middle of the fountain in front of the administration building.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies say a Ford F-350 pickup driven by Marvin Steed, 24, of Hilldale, Utah, went off the road and between a bus shelter and a fire hydrant, destroyed the UCC sign and took out a phone box in the process.
The pickup smashed the bricks lining the pond and landed in the middle of the water in front of the building.
Steed was not injured but the pickup appeared to be totaled.
He told deputies he was on his way home after working all night and fell asleep coming down College Road.
The pickup is owned by Phaze Concrete of Utah, which is working on the expansion project at Wal-Mart.
