ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Police officers and a county commissioner were just a few of the people who took a pie in the face to help raise money for charity.

The United Way held their third annual 'Pie in the Face' to help reach their fundraising goal for this year.

In a new twist, instead of just using people from the real estate community, organizers brought in several other people and auctioned off the chance to throw a pie in their face.

Sheriff John Hanlin, Sergeant Aaron Dunbar, and Dan Hern were just a few of the people who volunteered to help. "We are loving it, because the campaign will be up March 31," said Jim Darrow of the United Way. "We are chasing that $800,000 goal, and this is going to make a little chunk of that, so that's very very good."

In all, the event brought in more than $2,500, with most of it coming form the auction.

The majority of money for the capital campaign comes from small donations from the public. Officials say if people want to help, they can sign up to have a money taken from their paychecks, which really adds up in the long run.
