ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Parking tickets may soon be a thing of the past in downtown Roseburg.

The city council agreed Monday night to move forward with a contract proposal that could take Diamond Parking off patrol.

The Downtown Roseburg Association says their approach to parking would cut down on frivolous tickets and take on a friendlier approach to parking issues. Jeff Bright, the Downtown Roseburg Association Director told KPIC News, "We have a whole different philosophy of parking and shopping downtown. We are committed, basically, unless you are completely parking in a hazard or on the sidewalk or something, you will not get a ticket downtown. No frivolous tickets and so forth going forward."

Bright says he knows a lot of people who choose not to visit downtown because they're so strict with tickets.

The D.R.A. expects to introduce the finished contract proposal to the city council in about a month.
