ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A project years in the making is finally done.
Crews put the finishing touches on the airport runway extension project on Friday, finishing the paint job.
The runway is now 5,000 feet long, which means that larger jets can land at the Roseburg airport.
Officials believe that since big companies can fly goods directly into town instead of Eugene or Medford, the longer runway could attract more business to Douglas County. Airport Director Mike Danielle says it should mean more dollars landing in Douglas County. "There are large corporations that are investing in our community here, and they don't want to land in Eugene or land in Medford, and get in a car and drive up to Roseburg," he said. "So, we need to make sure that our airport is accessible to those kinds of corporations."
The airport still has a few minor tweaks to the project.
Danielle says that they'll be moving some of the displaced dirt and seeding the area so grass can grow.
