'I said 'No' every time... they put it up there anyway'
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg business is pleading with the public for patronage, and it seems to be working.
The sign out front says it all: 'Help us stay open, please eat here!'
Pete's Drive-In has been a Roseburg staple for decades.
But, lately, business has been slow.
Employees came up with the idea for the sign, but owner Chuck Caskey didn't like the idea. "They asked me for about two weeks solid and I said, "No" every time," said Chuck. "So, when they put it up, they said 'we're not going to listen to you,' and they put it up there anyway."
Chuck says he's glad they didn't listen to him.
The sign has only been up for a few days, but it's been working.
The parking lot has been packed pretty much non-stop since the sign went up, and customers KPIC News spoke with said they came in because they wanted to help.
Chuck says it's humbling to see how many people care about keeping his business afloat.
A Facebook group for Pete's started just a few days ago and already has over 600 followers.
Organizers are asking people to stop by Pete's this Saturday to help the old business stay up and running.
The last time I ate at Pete's the food was gross! I did not check it out before I brought it home; I should have. The lettuce was brown/green and the potatoes for the fries were green, too. Since I do not live in Roseburg, taking the food back would have been a bigger hassle than it was worth. I decided from then on that I would not eat there again and haven't since. If you want people to support local business, which I am all for, the businesses need to produce quality food; in other words, something worth returning to the business for that justifies the usually higher prices.
I love this place! Go pete!
iv never ate at petes, i dont eat greasy unhealthy fattning food that slowly kills u.
 @Scott!!! But you smoke?
@Scott!!! The last guy that told me that died at the age of 49, he made a fine looking corpse.
Pete's Drive-In is a delicious Roseburg treat! It's a great place to make memories :)
My first job was as a car hop at Pete's in 1974. Â I made life long friends there, and a LOT of great memories. Super fries with gravy I've never found any where else. Hope everyone in Roseburg shows the place some love and stops by.Â
I quit eating at Pete's when the car hop shorted me 15 dollars and I had to go find her only to be treated like garbage when I politely told her I believed she made a mistake. After the boss came out and they counted the money they saw I was correct and handed me my money with such disdain. I was not even offered and apology. I have never been back. It was my one and only stop there. I pray the owner has fixed the problems so people come back for the right reasons. Pity only gets you so far.
@Oregon Lady If I stopped going to places where an employee treated me like garbage, there would be a lot of places I would not be going to.  Kind of out of place for you to make such a comment on here and they have the balls to say "Pity only gets you so far".  I hope you always have great blessed days, not have to worry about money, keeping employees paid, etc.  I hope you never treat anyone like garbage either.  Everyone has bad days, get over it and move on!
Pete's Driv-In has the BEST FOOD - and the "Goop"Â YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Cynde Canepa i dont know if pete's invented goop, but it sure seems all the chinese restaurants followed in their footsreps.
when i was a teen, pete's was an icon, it was the place to be and to be seen
