Worksource: Douglas County unemployment dips slightly

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- The Worksource Oregon Employment Department says unemployment in Douglas County fell in February, but not much.

Douglas County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 11.3%, compared with a revised 11.4% in January.

It was above the statewide seasonally adjusted rate of 8.4% and above the national seasonally adjusted rate of 7.7%.

Douglas County was tied with Curry County for the seventh highest seasonally adjusted county unemployment rate in the state.

The number of unemployed dropped by 643 in February and was 709 lower than February of 2012, at 5,513.

Government jobs rose by 150, due to gains in local education (+140) and noneducation local government (+10). There was also a gain in federal government (+10) that was countered by a loss in state government (-10).
