WASHINGTON, D.C. - People who heat with natural gas may have a little extra money to burn this winter.

If you use natural gas to heat your home it will cost you at least $100 less than other fuels this winter, according to the Energy Information Administration. And there's another bonus: your natural gas heating bills should be about $105 less than it was last winter.

Households that use fuel oil, electric heat or propane will also be paying less than last year. It's partly because of lower fuel costs, and partly because of an expected milder winter.

On average, you'll pay the following:

  • $783 to heat your home with natural gas,
  • $933 if you use electric heat
  • $1,667 for propane heat, and
  • $1,821 if you use oil.

Officials at the Energy Information Administration caution that actual household costs could vary depending on local weather conditions, the size and energy efficiency of homes and the efficiency of heating equipment.
