'Tis the season to give and give back. It's never too early to teach your children the importance of giving to those less fortunate.

"It could turn into a career for some kids or they could realize, hey I really enjoy this and I benefit from it and I'm going to continue to volunteer," says Laura Hahn with Good Housekeeping

She has some great ideas that don't involve writing a check.

Since charity really does begin in the home you can donate old sports uniforms and athletic gear. SportsGift.org distributes used sports equipment to underprivileged kids across the globe.


And
amvets.org/taskforcedvd collects new and used DVDs and sends them to US troops around the world.

Another good idea: When your kid upgrades their cell phones, locate a local program that refurbishes old phone and gives them to various charities:
