ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The holiday season is here, and for many, that means that it's time to shop.

But, if you're transporting presents or packages, you could be leaving yourself vulnerable to theives.

Officials say many theives are on the lookout for easy targets this time of year.

If you want to protect your belongings, they recommend locking your car doors and stashing things like presents, packages and purses in the trunk or under seats.

Deputy Dwes Hutson of the Douglas County Sheriff's Offfice says that criminals are always on the lookout for an easy target. "Car prowls are a crime of opportunity, and so we just ask people to lessen the chances of becoming a victim by not keeping those things in the car while it's unattended," he said.

Hutson also recommends not leaving packages on your doorstep.

If you are getting something delivered, he advises having a neighbor hold on to it until you can get home.
