Jeweler plans to close 10 stores

EUGENE, Ore. - Harry Ritchie's Jewelers plans to close 10 stores, including the Roseburg store, and lay off 44 employees, including 4 employees at the corporate office in Eugene.

Spokesman Jason Davis told KVAL News the cuts would take effect Dec. 31, 2012, as part of a strategic restructuring to adapt to the current retail climate.

He said the stores slated for closure have been underperforming for some time.

The move is not a bankruptcy, he said. A hotline will be set up to handle customer concerns.

In addition to the 4 employees in Eugene, stores in Roseburg and Medford and at Salem's Lancaster Mall will close.

The company plans to close stores in College Place, Spokane, Bellingham, Olympia and Kelso in Washington, as well as Yuba City and Eureka in California.
