ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Fair food is a must at the Douglas County Fair, but you don't have to drain your wallet for a decent meal.

You just might have to sing for it.

Sean Blanchard is the Sing For Your Supper stage manager, and says anyone can get some free fair food. "This is just something to get the community to sing, to inspire the arts," he said. "We basically give free food to anyone that'll get up and sing for at least a minute."

Held at the Innerspace Cafe, sing for your supper has given fair attendees the chance to belt out their best tunes for a bite for nearly 30 years. "We got a lot of regulars coming now that bring instruments, a lot of guitars, and one guy who brings in his whole PA and everything and sets up," Blanchard said.

After three years, Dorothy Moll's husband finally convinced her to hop on stage and sing for her supper. "This year I actually went up there and did it, so it's like challenging yourself to do something," she said.

All you have to do is sing an age-appropriate song for one minute, but just back off the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star song. "We hope for a whole song, for people to really try, but it doesn't matter how good you are. If you get up and sing we'll give you something."
