ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Kids in Douglas County were taking part in the annual Walk and Bike to School Day on Wednesday.
240 kids from Rose Elementary School met at Eagles Park and walked to school.
Experts say kids need at least an hour of physical activity a day, and many kids don't get that.
They say that means those kids are more at risk of becoming overweight.
The whole idea behind the walk and bike to school day is to get kids more active and improve their health. Lucas Spears participated in the walk, and says he knows why it makes sense. "It helps you stay healthy so that you can't worry about health problems," he said.
Karl Heath also walked to school yesterday, and says he enjoyed it. "It's good exercise and it's fun, you get to walk with your friends," he said.
The event was supported by the Physicians of Douglas County and the Roseburg Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition.
