Diagnosis Day walks students through trauma

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- This weekend, 29 lucky students participated in Mercy Hospital's annual Diagnosis Day.

The event caters to high school students who are thinking about beginning a career in the health care field.

Rose Zoellner, the volunteer coordinator at Mercy, talked about the experience the kids get in this realistic drill. "Students actually come in and get hands-on experience and work with physicians," she said. "It's just as good for students to find out that they want to be in the medical field as it is for them to be like, "hey, I think I'm gonna go in a different direction with my career path.""

The theme of this year's event: Trauma.

In a demonstration, a bicyclist was hit by a driver who was text messaging.

Students followed the mock patient through the hospital as he underwent and array of medical procedures.
