South county health clinic shows off new services

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. -- After receiving more than $200,000 in grant money last year, the Umpqua Community Health Center's Myrtle Creek facility has finished renovations.

The public got a chance to check it out on Tuesday.

Some changes include a new children's waiting area, more exam rooms and a new pediatric nurse.

Nicole Baxter, a family nurse practitioner, says it's a needed service in the area. "In south Douglas County there haven't been a lot of pediatric services or pediatric providers, so most parents have to bring their kids to Roseburg," she said. "I do come to the area from Utah with a lot of pediatric experience."

Residents who stopped by the open house were given a tour, lunch and a free dental assessment from the 'Got Smile?' wagon.
