'What it's taken to keep this country great'
On display By David Walker KVAL News and KVAL.com staffFLORENCE, Ore. - At the Florence airport, a hangar full of military artifacts and memorabilia has served as an unoffical museum. Multimedia"Certainly we're an aging retirement community," said Cal Appleee with the Oregon Coast Military Heritage Museum, "so we began wondering what was going to happen to all the artifacts, all the stories, all the heritage as those veterans passed away." Organizers assembled the collection on hand today, from military weapons to war-time posters and vehicles. The collection will be displayed in the Oregon Coast Military Heritage Museum. "We have been at events with some of our displays some of our military vehicles, and have absolutely been amazed at the lack of knowledge and understanding by our younger people today about our american heritage and our military heritage.")[Duration:0'14"] Through the museum, they plan to share the history and experiences of veterans with the younger generation. "That way the kids will know and understand the sacrifices that have been made by our veterans in the past," said Sam Spayd, another member of the Oregon Coast Military Heritage Museum team, "and what it took and what it's taken to keep this country great." |
