ELKTON, Ore. -- The Elkton bridge project is being honored by Roads & Bridges Magazine.

The Oregon Department of Transportation landed itself on the Top 10 Bridges of 2010 by the publication for work on the Oregon 38 bridges over Elk Creek and Hardscrabble Creek.

The magazine chose from bridge projects all over the nation.

Officials at ODOT say that they are proud of the work done there, saying that crews completed a highly complex project with time to spare.

ODOT's report highlighted the technical processes used on the construction.

One difficulty construction crews faced was that the bridge on the east side of the Elk Creek tunnel is so close to the entrance that working on it would restrict traffic to one lane through the tunnel. Instead, crews built the new bridge next to the old one, leaving the exisisting bridge open to keep traffic moving.

The project was able to be completed through the Oregon State Bridge Delivery Program.

The publication will have the top 10 list in it's November issue.
