EUGENE, Ore. - If you've ever tried driving to Autzen Stadium for a Saturday home game, you know traffic can be a nightmare.
Now add the fact that the game is on a Thursday during the work week, and the scenario takes traffic to a whole new level.
"It's going to be very congested in the area around Autzen Stadium," said Melinda McLaughlin with the Eugene Police Department. "We're ahead of time setting up directional cones. People should follow their usual route to get to Autzen Stadium, but if they don't have to be in the area for work or business or to go to the game, people might want to avoid that area."
If you live or work in the area and can't avoid driving there, police said you have some options.
"A really great alternate route if you have to in the Coburg road area would be to go down Washington/Jefferson bridge, take Delta Highway and then access Cal Young, Beltline or Green Acres.
Another potential headache Thursday for motorists will be trying to find a parking spot at Lane Transit District park and ride stations like the one at Valley River Center since three of the eight stations used on Saturdays won't be open.
"There's two schools that we use, South Eugene High School and Thurston High School, and then our Springfield Transit Station in downtown springfield," said Andy Vorbora with LTD.
LTD suggests using less busy park and ride stations at the Lane County Fairgrounds and Symantec.
"People just need to be aware of that, otherwise, it's pretty much the same program," Vobora said.
