EUGENE, Ore. - A state trooper pulled over a Nissan sedan on Beltline Road after clocking the driver going 105 miles per hour last March.
As the trooper exited his cruiser and approached the car, the Nissan sped off and ran a red light.
Less than 43 seconds after the chase started, the driver ran a second red light at Bertlesen Road and West 11th and slammed broadside into a Chevy S10 pickup.
The crash also hit a Eugene Police car uninvolved in the initial chase.
Two people in the pickup - Toni Lynn Bryson, 43, and Richard Lee Taylor, 62 - died in the crash.
Eugene Police Department Recruit Officer Joshua Sundquist, with passenger Field Training Officer Kyle Evans, were injured in the crash.
The trial for the driver of the Nissan, Emmanuel Herrara-Gutierrez, was set to go on trial Friday.
Instead, the teen - who was 16 and in the country illegally at the time of the crash - pleaded guilty and got over 6 years in prison for the deadly crash.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree manslaughter, two counts of assault, one count of reckless driving and one count of reckless endangering. A judge sentenced him to 75 months.
Herrara-Gutierrez likely faces deportation at the end of his sentence because of his immigration status, the Lane County District Attorney's Office said.
