Man who put dog in oven gets jail time, probation

SALEM, Ore. - A man who pleaded guilty to a shocking animal abuse crime will serve time in jail followed by a long probation period, a judge said Thursday.
Kevin Dean Parrish, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated animal abuse charges on Wednesday after putting his grandmother's dog, a small Chihuahua-Pincher named Kudo, into an oven that was heated to 350 degrees.
Parrish will serve 30 days in jail and then be placed on probation for five years.
Parrish said he had heated the oven to cook some food but became angry at Kudo when the dog nipped at him. He admitted to investigators that he hit and strangled the dog before putting it in the oven.
Kudo was rescued by Parrish's brother and father. The dog was burned but is expected to make a full recovery.
Parrish, who has no prior criminal record, admitted to Marion County deputies that he has anger issues and snapped when dealing with the dog.
In light of several recent high-profile animal abuse cases, Democratic Rep. Brad Witt has introduced a bill in Salem that would require animal abusers to register with Oregon State Police in the same way sex offenders are now required to register their location.
"Often times, what we see is people who abuse humans got started abusing animals," Witt said. "Certainly it's intolerable to be inflicting that kind of abuse pain and suffering on animals."
Why isn't it the case that the man gets away w/almost murder...gramdma knows it's a creep! Part of this sentence should have been watching the animal who suffer at the shelter...Oh ...maybe not he might like that! Next victim is human...just watch!
Not enough time in jail and needs to work at humane society cleaning up the kennels. He also needs anger management help this is not normal behavior.
I agree with previous post, slap on the wrist. I think he should also go to anger management class so he can get help before he gets some girl knocked up and gets angry with a crying baby.
Taking this not seriously endangers not only other animals but kids and other people. This guy is a sick piece of work. Should be put in a very dark hole himself.
Do we think maybe we have some mental issues?
Whatever it was it wasn't enough!!
Definitely not a harsh enough sentence. 30 days is ridiculous He should be in for several months & also needs anger management.
There always to lenient
Personally, any family of mine that was cruel to animals, would never again be family. People like this can so easily hurt people as well. Wouldn't want them in my home or near loved ones.
He should be put in the oven
hang him
Way too lenient.....should be charged just as much as it would have been if he put a human in a oven.
WHY. WHY?
And he'll most likely not spend 30 days in jail....it'll probly be time served for the nite he spent when he initially was arrested. The laws are so screwed up ...that poor little innocent dog :(
Thank you for posting that KPIC. It helps when you see something like this to have a place they can get involved and make changes to change it.

Caila, there is also a group working to change legislation on animals not considered "domestic." You can find that here:
Wow
That is unacceptable! I think it's worse than a human and about the same as doing it to a child. They are so loving and all they live for is to bring us joy. I seriously want to do something to change the laws.
Too lenient, mans best friend deserves much better.
Should be in jail longer and hours and hours of community service at the animal shelter
I wrote a comment on this but they are not posting it. Thirty days is a joke, With anger like that, the next one could be a child OR maybe his Grandmother, who's little dog it was. Hope he meets up with some REAL ANIMAL LOVERS while he is in jail. If that sounds vindictive, it is as I have 3 little dogs and they will not be mistreated as long as I am breathing.
He got 30 days in jail and 5 yrs probation, Laura.
I can't pull up the link to see what he got...but isn't this the way serial killers get started. They move on from this to people when this doesn't give them the thrill they're seeking.
That animal did not deserve that. My cats are like my children. He should get longer than 30 days. Makes me ANGRY!
Definately too lenient that was like a slap on the hand....
WAY to lenient!!! He deserves to go to prison! Next it might be a child he does this to............
Ore laws don't give a judge much to wk with in animal cruelty cases. Needs to be changed
Good for him.
Jeremy they a flipping CRAZY!
Man was he messed up. Such a cute pup. Some people are all wrong, just wrong.
NO sentence is too lenient for animal abusers! NONE! There is NEVER an excuse to harm an innocent animal that has no choice! The law is not severe enough on abusers.
What is wrong with people these days.
I'd like to see the penalties for crimes against animals increased significantly. Â 30 days in jail for this guy is outrageous.
