Coast Guard closes Tillamook Bay, Depoe Bay, Siuslaw River bars

ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard closed the Tillamook Bay, Depoe Bay and Siuslaw River bars Saturday due to hazardous conditions.

The Coast Guard will be re-evaluating the bar closures on an “ongoing basis” and expects to open the waterways when the weather improves.

Spokesman Nathan Littlejohn said any request to transit the bars before they open again must be approved by the Captain of the Port, Sector Columbia River. Mariners can contact the Coast Guard on VHF-FM Channel 16 to request crossing or for further information.

Littlejohn said the Coast Guard understands the effect the closures have on commerce.
