Wildlife Safari expands lion viewing area

People can count the hairs on the lions with the newly expanded lion exhibit at Wildlife Safari.

Two massive fences were set up so that all five lions could be seen clearly and up-close throughout the day.

Sarah Roy from the Safari says, "With two viewing pens here, we can let all the cats out every day so the people are seeing more cats and the cats are getting way more closer to the people."

Visitors and lions are safely separated by high fencing and guests can drive up with their windows down for a close encounter with the animals.

"We put in all this black fencing that you can see through it, makes it much safer for the exhibit and allows people to get really, really close to the lions," said Dan VanSlyke, Wildlife Safari Director.

In the past, people couldn't get that close to the lions because it wasn't safe, and safari jeeps would keep people away from the animals.

"Before, we could let only two cats out a day."

Now, visitors can get an up close and personal experience with the lions.
