SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Gov. Ted Kulongoski, a strong backer of Sen. Hillary Clinton in Oregon's Democratic presidential primary, says he will skip the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
A spokesman said Friday the decision was made a few weeks ago. Clinton is a super delegate pledged to Clinton but Barack Obama won handily in Oregon in May.
Kulongoski said he has more important matters pending, including a major energy summit.
He is the second high-profile Oregon office holder to bow out of a convention. Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., facing a tough re-election campaign, said earlier he will not attend the Republican Convention.
