Bayliner opens door to public
By KPIC Web Staff
A boat company in Winchester showed off its facility this weekend, to allow community members to see how a boat is made in the plant.
Family members of Bayliner employees have had the opportunity to see the large machinery and technique used to build the 24 to 32 foot boats. Intrigued community members got the chance for a free, open tour through Bayliner's facility. "From the back in laminations to the whole process, a lot of demonstrations on each individual piece of the process and how it all fits together. We actually finish it all up, with what we call a glass wall presentation to show our lean manufacturing and our quality in the boat." Visitors saw how the boat motors are tested and then saw several finished models. Bayliner is a Brunswick company that has the US Marine division. The Winchester facility can build up to nine boats a day and has several models to choose from. "We'll go anywhere from three boats a day up to nine boats a day, depending on obviously the economy and the way that goes. US Marine makes all Bayliner cruises, all the Maxims, Trophy fishing boats and Meridian yachts." Bayliner has about 180 employees at their facility. |
