ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) -- A man facing charges for shooting an intruder in his home has pleaded not guilty and faces trial in May.

Keith Cramer is accused of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. His lawyer entered the plea Monday.

Cramer's wife discovered 35-year-old Michael Shane Smith of Alaska sleeping on the couch the night of June 19. She and their daughter went to a bar to get Cramer, who returned to the house.

Shortly after that, the 34-year-old Sutherlin man called police to report the shooting.

Smith was in Sutherlin to care for his mother before her death.
