MEDFORD, Ore. -- The armed gunman who robbed an Oregon casino of $80,050 before fleeing to California will spend over 12 years in federal prison.

Judge Owen Panner sentenced Cody Joe Jonas, 29, of Klamath Falls, Ore., Monday to over 12 years in federal prison for the Aug. 9, 2007, robbery of the Kla-Mo-Ta Casino in Chiloquin, Ore.

During the early morning robbery, Jonas brandished a firearm while giving orders to casino employees and fleeing with $80,050.00. Jonas fled to California where he was subsequently caught by San Diego Police following a high speed chase.

Panner sentenced Jonas as a Career Offender, which enhances the sentence for commission of a serious violent felony after two or more convictions for other serious violent felonies. Jonas has prior convictions for residential burglary, assault and robbery from the state of Washington.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Byron Chatfield prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI, the Klamath County Sheriff’s office and the Oregon State Police.
