ELKTON, Ore. - Eugene-area woman died Saturday evening when she lost control of her motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail while attempting to turn off a county road onto Highway 38 east of Wells Creek in western Douglas County.

Oregon State Police said the 2009 BMW 650 motorcycle operated by Diane Detuerk, 57, of Eugene, was southbound on Weatherly Creek Road attempting to turn left onto Highway 38, just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Detuerk lost control of her motorcycle and impacted a highway guardrail. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detuerk was wearing a protective helmet and riding equipment. A riding partner was traveling a short distance ahead of her and not involved in the collision.

Traffic on Highway 38 was closed for about 90 minutes, while the investigation was going on. O.S.P. troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Coos County Medical Examiner's Office, Scottsburg Fire Department, Lower Umpqua Hospital Ambulance, and ODOT assisted at the scene with the investigation.
